Yoshiko Lynn Shinoda

 Yoshiko Lynn Shinoda, "Yo" passed away on April 2, 2026.  Born in Glendale, CA, she graduated from Berkeley High School, attended UC Berkeley and graduated in 1956 from UC San Francisco Medical School with a Dental Hygiene degree. She married Fred M. Shinoda on June 22, 1957 in Berkeley.  In addition to her dental hygienist career, she helped run her dad's Nikko Art Shop on Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley which she took over as proprietor until closing in 1999.  Yo was 7 when her family was evacuated along with all west coast families of Japanese ancestry to the Santa Anita Assembly Center and later, the Amache incarceration site near Granada, CO.  
  In 1943, she moved to Boulder, CO where her parents taught at the Naval Japanese Language School.  She attended the American School in Japan while her mother worked for as a translator for the US Army.  Yo was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Kiyoharu Yokouchi, her Uncle Byko Umezawa and her cousin Elinor Kajiwara.  She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Fred M. Shinoda, her son Douglas Shinoda, her sister Tomiko Madden, and three generations of nieces and nephews.
