Timothy James Rooney

Timothy James Rooney died at his home in San Leandro, CA Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the age of 72.

Tim was born in Spokane, WA. October 1, 1951.

A 1969 graduate of Pacific High School, Tim was very active in football and golf.  He attended Cal East Bay (Hayward) where he also played golf.  This interest in golf which was handed down from his father, who was instrumentally involved as the Marina Golf Course in San Leandro grew from a 9-hole pitch and putt into the 18-hole Monarch Bay (Tony Lema) course that endures today.  Tim attended the PGA of American Business and was a PGA Professional for several years serving as Head Pro at the Tony Lema course in those early years.  Tim had over the years remained a fixture of the San Leandro golf community and member of several men’s golf clubs in the area. 

Tim’s smiling face and mild manner leaves a mark on all those who were fortunate enough to be in his orbit.  He will be sadly missed.

Tim was preceded in death by his long-term partner Jon (Jonnie) Jeane Esser and his parents James Everett Rooney and Joan Bree Rooney.

Tim is survived by his brother Brian Patrick Rooney (Chicago, IL), his son Sean Christopher Rooney and grandson Liam Sean Rooney.

Plans for a celebration of Tim’s life to be held at the Monarch Bay Golf Facility are still in the works and will be announced soon.
