Stephen Lee McClintock
04/20/46 – 10/27/24
Stephen Lee McClintock, aged 78, of Vacaville CA, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024. Born in Oakland, CA., on April 20, 1946 to the loving parents, Lawrence Joseph and Donna Marie (Goben) McClintock. Steve was raised in San Leandro, along with his siblings, sister Kathleen Harris and younger brothers, Tom, Terry and Kevin. Steve attended St. Leander’s grammar school where he began his excellence in learning, achieving nearly straight A’s in all of his subjects, along with honing his athletic skills while participating in both baseball and basketball. Steve continued his excellence in academics while attending St. Elizabeth High School in Oakland. He graduated in 1964 with a 4.0 G.P.A. and was selected President of his senior class. In his 4 years of high school, Steve continued his competitive drive in sports, earning a Varsity block in baseball and basketball. Due to the Honor standards in his classes and his proven leadership skills, Steve was awarded a full academic scholarship to the University of San Francisco, graduating in the spring of 1968 with a degree in accounting.
In the Fall of 1968, Steve was hired by the Stauffer Chemical Co. in San Francisco as part of the firm’s accounting and financial analysis division. While attending U.S.F., Steve met Julia Gilbert by chance at one of the campus dances. They began dating and were married in June of 1969.
During his tenure at Stauffer, Steve rose in responsibility, becoming one of the leading financial officers, and remained in this position when the company was acquired by Chesebrough-Pond in 1985. In 1987, Imperial Industries of Westport, Ct., acquired the chemical business from Chesebrough, moving the headquarters of Stauffer to the East Coast. Steve was the main liaison of this transition, ensuring the proper transfer of all financial documents, as the entire San Francisco office was facing elimination. You could literally say, Steve was the “last man standing,” representing Stauffer Chemicals in its founding city of San Francisco.
Steve’s recognized talent for “crunching the numbers” were matched again when he was hired by Simpson Duravent of Vacaville, as their Controller of Finance. He remained in this position until his retirement in 2014.
Although he had no children, Steve cherished his extended family, his sister and three brothers, and his numerous nieces and nephews. His gift-giving and generosity toward everyone was a reflection of his love and the significance of Family in Steve’s life. He was Uncle Steve to everyone!
Steve was an intellectual, a good storyteller, and the most informative conversationalist of the family. He will be missed dearly!
Steve is survived by his sister Kathleen, and his brothers, Tom (Queta), Terry (Nancy), and Kevin (Diane); and by his former wife Julia. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Larry Harris; his nephew Chad Harris; and by his parents.
A gravesite burial and memorial service will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward on Tuesday, Nov. 19th, at 11:00.
