Good morning. My name is Donald LaFrance. Lupe was my aunt. Aunt Lu was born on June 11, 1935 in Pittsburg, California to Felix Quezada and Delfina Martin Quezada. When auntie was only 3 years old her mother died and auntie was raised by her older sisters and brothers. She later developed polio and had to use crutches for many years just to get around. Auntie graduated from San Leandro High School, had various part-time jobs, then joined Wells Fargo Bank in 1974. She held several promotional positions there, was a loyal and competent staff member and retired after 42 years of service. She kept a wonderful group of friends at Wells Fargo and took many vacations with them.
Auntie stayed single all her life and had no children. However, all her nephews and nieces were her children. She and her friends Ronnie and Vonalee took many of us on wonderful adventures and weekend trips to just being picked up and taken to the ice cream parlor. In other words, she spoiled us rotten!!
Aunt Lu and Aunt Coni were roommates for as long as any of us can remember. Although both aunts always worked full time, they were caretakers to our grandfather Felix Quezada, for many years until his death in 1973.
You cannot discuss Aunt Lu without adding her older sister, Aunt Coni. These two were the dynamic duo in their duplex in Oakland, their house on Clark Street in San Leandro, and finally their mobile home in San Leandro. They hosted years of dinners, parties and celebrations. There was always wonderful wine, terrific food & Aunt Lu's delicious Galliano Cake as well as hours of fun! They also volunteered hundreds of hours to both St. Leanders and St. Felicitas churches. Both of these aunts always showed up for all family occasions, in both good times and bad. They provided emotional as well as financial support to many of us. They accepted EVERYONE into their lives. They weren't just our aunties, they were ANGELS!
Aunt Coni was a true extrovert and dragged Aunt Lu , a true introvert, along for the ride!!
For the last four years auntie has resided at an assisted living complex in
Fremont. She said goodbye to us on February 20, 2025. She now joins her parents, her seven sisters- Josephine, Nickie, Mary, Conj, Carmen, Vera, and Antonia as well as her three brothers- Paul, Barney & Sal. She also joins her beloved Godson, my older brother, Thomas LaFrance. Auntie's older sister, Lee, my mother, is the last surviving member of this huge, loving family.
I wish to thank my cousins Barbara, Beverley, Judy & Sister Gloria Loya and my sister, Michele, for the attention and care they gave to Aunt Lu during the last four years.
I'd also like to thank auntie's friend and caretaker, Irma, from auntie's assisted living complex for all she did for her as well as her friend, Jenny Spivey, who worked for auntie when she resided in her mobile home.
We love you Aunt Lu and we will miss you terribly. Rest in peace.
