Larry Vernon Cornell 

(1943–2023)

Larry Vernon Cornell entered into eternal rest on October 29, 2023. Larry was born in Oakland, California on October 22, 1943 to Julia Rodrigues and Alfred Cornell. Larry was proceeded in death by his parents, younger brother Roger Decorte, and his furry best friend Abby. Larry was a longtime resident of San Leandro, California, eventually retired and moved to Union City, California. He is survived by his Wife of 59 years, Darlene Cornell, sister Susan Murphy, Daughters Lori Zipp (Edward) and Debbie Cornell, Granddaughters Jessica Hernandez, Kristina Dahdah (Fouad) and Nicole Mhesin (Tony), Great Granddaughter, Maliyah Dahdah, God Child Denise Everett and many relatives. Larry was in the US Navy (1961-1964), served as UAW Shop Steward while employed at Chrysler Parts Depot, San Leandro (1970-1988) and the proud business owner of Cornell’s Automotive Repair, in Hayward (22 years). Larry also served multiple terms as President of I.D.E.S St. John’s Inc., in San Leandro, in honor of his Portuguese heritage. As a resident of the Tropics Mobile Home Park Larry was dedicated giving his time daily to the Bee Bug Club. Larry will be most remembered for his jokes, laughter, good deeds, the love and care he showed for his family, friends and even strangers.

Viewing and Mass at St. Felicitas Catholic Church, 1662 Manor Blvd., San Leandro, CA 94579 on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, Viewing 10:00 am, Mass begins at 11:00 am.

Burial at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery (Military Cemetery), 5810 Midway Rd., Dixon, CA 95620 Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 10:30 am –Procession will leave Santos and Robinson Mortuary at 8:30 am for those that wish to follow.
