The family of Gerald (Jerry) Shevenell is deeply saddened to announce his passing on April 29,2026 surrounded by his family at his home in Capitola,CA Born July 24,1937 in Saco Maine. He enlisted in the Navy after his High School graduation. After his tour in the US Navy, he made his home in California where he met and married his wife, Janice. They made their home and raised 4 children in Castro Valley. A few years in Sonora and settled in Capitola. Jerry lived a full life as a Navy Seabee, and an active reservist for over 20 years. He was called to duty in his 50’s during the Persian Gulf War. He was a Union Carpenter/Sr.Business Agent (Retired) 35 years. He was a man of faith and active member of Transfiguration and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He volunteered and was President of the Castro Valley Little League,Foothill Sportsman Club, served in the Security Division on the USS Hornet, and President of the Mid County Senior Center and Board of Directors of Loma Vista Estates. His love of family and friends was his proudest accomplishment. He was preceded in death by his parents Gertrude and Step father Roger, and his son, John. He is survived by his wife, Janice and children Ann (Jeff), Catherine and Tom (Alice). His grandchildren, Corinne (Gordy), Nikki (Troy), Matt (Morgan), Hannah (Eli), Seth (Brianna), and Sarah. His Great Grandchildren, Emily (Caleb), Grace, Ava, Lucy, Gwen, Theo, Alyssa,Vinnie, Avery, and Bowen. Great Great Grandaughter, Mia and close Cousins Norman, Celeste and Ken, family and many wonderful friends. A very special thank you to Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
A Celebration of Life and Mass will be held June 13, 2026 St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 435 Monterey Ave Capitola, Ca 95010 at 10:30 am
