Evangeline M. McCartney passed away peacefully on January1, 2024. Evangeline was a devoted, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Being around her family was her greatest joy. She was an accomplished baker, cook, seamstress, and artist. She loved spending days by the seaside and taking trips to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Evangeline was known for her colorful personality, quick wit, and sense of humor.
A native of Oregon, she married the love of her life, Thomas, to whom she was married for over 70 years. They were wed in 1949 on Treasure Island, San Francisco. They later made a life together in Alameda and then San Leandro, California, where they raised their children, Thomas and Mary Anne. During her young adult life, Evangeline worked for Pacific Telephone. Later, she worked as a waitress in the catering industry.
Evangeline is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne Butler (Eddie Chavez); granddaughters, Delena Miconi (Daniel), Amanda McCartney (Chuey Lopez), Melissa McCartney Rubens; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas Oliver McCartney; her beloved son, Thomas Edward McCartney; her parents; her beloved brother, Joseph; and her beloved sister, Cleopatra. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
