Babette M. Popoff

Babette Cureton Popoff, the fifth daughter of Reverand Timothy Mack Cureton and Rovana Watkins Cureton, was born on December 16th, 1932 in Turkey Knob, West Virginia. Raised primarily in Michigan, she was one of twelve children.

After receiving a bachelor's degree in nursing science from Wayne State University, Babette moved to San Francisco, California to pursue her profession. There, she met Nicholas Popoff - her great love. Together they raised five children: Vanessa, Jean-Paul, Gary, Simeon, and Rovana. They built a loving and supportive home that was based on study and faith.

Babette was a broad thinker who balanced faith with scholarship. As a child she relished opportunities to work with her father in his church and continued to work in churches her entire life. She was a licensed missionary giving ministry and support to the incarcerated and the infirmed. After raising her children and retiring, she achieved a master's degree in biblical studies. Babette was part of prayer circles that were inter-denominational, inter-faith, and international. She mentored numerous pastors, missionaries, and those just forming a relationship with God.

In addition to her children, Babette leaves behind two daughters-in-law (Febra and Shaun), two sons-in law (Richard and David), three grandchildren (Michel, Rachel, and Nina), and one great-granddaughter (Lilliana). Her sister Constance Lott is her last surviving sibling. Her nieces and nephews, biological and adopted, are many. The number of spiritual brothers, sisters, sons and daughters that Babette leaves behind is too great to list.

May all of us remember the prayers she offered for us, the meals she cooked for us, the wisdom she shared with us, the comfort she gave us and last, but not least, the stories and jokes that brought us laughter.
